Tamborine Mountain is a biodiversity hotspot of South-East Queensland, home to ancient rainforests, iconic wildlife and threatened species including Greater Gliders and Koalas.
Thunderbird Rewilding has conservation programs which allow everyone to help protect this extraordinary landscape through hands-on habitat restoration, native tree planting, wildlife conservation and environmental education.

Spotted feeding onsite amongst the secluded areas of dry eucalypt forest, now the focus of our habitat monitoring.
Since conservation efforts have begun we have already seen an increase in koala activity and populations across the site.

A tree hollow takes over 100 years to form naturally - that's why we build wildlife nesting boxes from storm-felled timber. It's a bit like moving into a new home while you wait for the real one to grow!

Do I need experience to become a Ranger?
None at all - just a willingness to take part. Whether you are planting a tree, caring for the landscape or bringing the family along, our team will guide you through everything on the day.
Who is behind Thunderbird Rewilding?
Thunderbird Rewilding Inc. is an independently governed, not-for-profit conservation organisation. We are proudly connected to the Thunderbird Park legacy and work alongside Tamborine Mountain Glades, while following our own conservation mission.
Can I take part in more than one experience?
Absolutely. Once you become a Ranger, you can choose the activities that speak to you - from one planting morning to family experiences and ongoing habitat care.
Can volunteering contribute to centerlink activity hours?
Yes! Once you sign up to regular attendance at our field work regeneration days, we can complete the required paperwork to allow your volunteer hours to contribute to your activity requirements! Learn skills that will help your future employment while helping the environment.
Is there a cost to get involved?
Becoming a ranger and participating in regeneration programs and tree plantings are free. Our holiday activities will incur a small fee with every dollar going directly back into our conservation projects.
Can my kids attend without me?
All junior rangers need a responsible adult/guardian with them at all times.
What should I bring on the day?
Comfortable closed shoes, a hat and drinking water are a good place to start. We will provide the tools, gloves and plants, and send you the full details before your activity.
